A new chilli

Tuesday 9th February 2016, 12.20pm (day 1,629)

New chilli, 9/2/16

Most of 2016 so far has been two things — firstly, lacking in any light (so few sunny days…), and second, very housebound, which this picture in its way is intended to represent. However, the latter limitation, at least, is about to change, with it being quite feasible that over the next four weeks only three pictures will have to be taken in Hebden Bridge. The weather…. well, I can be less sure about that.

Dusk view from my house (too early!)

Tuesday 27th October 2015, 5.15pm (day 1,524)

HB dusk view, 27/10/15

A dull day today in every sense. Damp grey weather in Hebden Bridge and I spent almost the whole day indoors, teaching online. So there was little to inspire the photography. This shot has little artistic merit I know, but I chose it to show how, now the clocks have gone back, it’s getting dark well early — and there’s much more darkness to come of course, before the year turns.

Evening view over Hebden Bridge

Monday 22nd June 2015, 7.30pm (day 1,397)

View from house, 22/6/15

Another day where the weather can politely be described as ‘mixed’. But at least this evening burst of sun brought dramatic light for a time.  Today brings to an end what has been (for me) a relatively long period at home, but the next ten days see me mostly elsewhere.

Limited horizons

Thursday 8th January 2015, 10.10am (day 1,232)

Bedroom view, 8/1/15

Regular visitors to this blog may recognise this as the view from the back of my house, my bedroom window to be precise. (Chilli plants and all.) This is as much as I saw of the world today. If I ever do end this blog, it’ll be because of the need to get creative on days like these, spent indoors, rain and grey light outside. But for now, I’m still here.

The turf roof, finished

Wednesday 16th July 2014, 9.15am (day 1,056)

Turf roof, 16/7/14

Poor photographic pickings today as I was working at home all day, and it wasn’t sunny. This deserves documenting however — the finished turf roof on the Calrec Audio extension below our house. It took them a while to get it done, but at least it is now complete.

Scissor lift, Nutclough Mill

Friday 21st March 2014, 9.20am (day 939)

Scissor lift, 21/3/14

The extension, to the left of this shot, is now clad and glazed and presumably will start being decorated inside sometime soon. At this time in the morning the sun shines rather well down the narrow channel that has been left between it and the main, Victorian mill building to the right. (Notice also the red van that has snuck into the top of the shot, an indication of the sometimes surreal configuration of the streets and buildings in this town.)

Misty morning

Wednesday 12th March 2014, 8.30am (day 930)

Misty morning, 12/3/14

It was actually another beautiful day today but I saw nothing of this; due to my wanderings yesterday I really needed to get down to do some work today so never left home. So here is that old staple, the view from my house, over Hebden Bridge. The sun did not burn through this mist until well into the morning.

Stones for the roof

Tuesday 25th February 2014, 4.15pm (day 915)

Stones on roof, 25/2/14

A day working at home. The turf roof that has been promised for the Nutclough Mill extension has moved a step closer, it seems, with the delivery of a whole bunch of stones (in bags here) that presumably will form the ‘bedrock’.

I have been doing this blog for 30 months today — that is, exactly two-and-a-half years.

Further excavations

Wednesday 5th February 2014, 11.50am (day 895)

Excavations, 5/2/14

From the sublime to the ridiculous, from the glorious alpine vistas of the northern Lake District to the new hole which has appeared beside the Nutclough Mill extension over the last couple of days. Yes, I was stuck in the house again, and the diggings down there are about the only source of variety on such a day.

View from my living room

Monday 20th January 2014, 12.10pm (day 879)

Living room view, 20/1/14

Another very pleasant day, though I was stuck inside grading papers most of the day. But the view is compensation. I’d say I was lucky to have it, but you know, I’m not a total idiot. I mean, we did buy the place.
