Sunbathing

Saturday 8th April 2017, 2.40pm (day 2,053)

Sunbathing robin, 8/4/17

Everyone was enjoying the good weather today. This robin in the garden had a look around, decided I was no threat at all, fluffed its feathers up, spread its wings and settled in for a few minutes’ quiet drying out time. This seemed a perfectly good response to the sunshine as far as I was concerned.

Heading back under cover

Sunday 19th February 2017, 2.05pm (day 2,005)

Ladybird, 19/2/17

Clearing away a bunch of dead foliage from the allotment this afternoon, I uncovered this beauty. It decided it was still far too early in the year to be exposed to the elements and crawled its way back under cover sharpish, but I managed to get a couple of shots off before it did so.

Robin

Wednesday 4th January 2017, 1.35pm (day 1,959)

Robin, 4/1/17

Hint: if really struggling to find a picture for the day — go sit in the allotment for ten minutes and wait for a robin to turn up and flirt with the camera…

Leeks in the garden

Saturday 12th November 2016, 10.45am (day 1,906)

Leek leaves, 12/11/16

The leeks have grown way better this year than in any previous year. We could say it’s the good weather — and it continues to be mild and pleasant, Wednesday’s sprinkling of snow notwithstanding — but actually I reckon it’s the discovery of ‘Baby Bio’ fertiliser. Which probably means these no longer count as ‘organic’, but what the hell, the one we ate this evening was very tasty. Not that you eat these bits of the plant, however.

Snug bug

Wednesday 19th October 2016, 12.50pm (day 1,882)

Snug bug, 19/10/16

I think this ladybird looks quite snug and comfortable on its apple tree leaf. Winter is coming, though… better get inside somewhere, beetle.

Patio face

Wednesday 28th September 2016, 9.50am (day 1,861)

Patio face, 28/9/16

A wholly unexciting day in every respect, so this is a stock photo pulled out of the bag. This patio belongs to a house just a couple of minutes’ walk away and I pass it frequently, been meaning to picture it at some point because I like this moon-face decoration. As nothing else happened today — it finally makes it.

Garden visitor

Allotment visitor, 30/6/16

This frog virtually demanded that I did its close-ups….

In the garden

Monday 6th June 2016, 7.30pm (day 1,747)

Garden foliage, 6/6/16

The sun is shining, it was a beautiful day. In such circumstances it’s great to have the garden to hang out in on an evening. Although I suspect this foliage is a weed — raspberry probably, which seems to grow everywhere except where you actually want it to.

Joe does very little

Sunday 22nd May 2016, 1.30pm (day 1,732)

Joe chillin, 22/5/16

Not every day will be exciting, eventful or photogenic — but I’ve come to realise that does not matter. This shot epitomises today — a pleasant Sunday spent doing not very much, and I feel we are all the better for it.

New growth

Monday 4th April 2016, 5.55pm (day 1,684)

Redcurrant bud, 4/4/16

I went back to work today after 10 days off, not that this gave me any particularly new horizons photography-wise. Into the garden it is, then. All the plants that were deposited in the soil after being acquired from Barton Grange (and its urinals) two weeks ago seem to have sprouted, so that’s worth recording, if unexciting.
