Mysterious mist

Monday 29th October 2018, 8.50am (day 2,622)

Mysterious mist, 29/10/18

Sometimes, despite all the bvious faults in a photo (here, rampant lens flare), it’s still worth going with just because it’s different. The ‘mist’ is actually steam from a heating vent being pumped out by the old mill on the way to Hebden Bridge station. A beautiful morning today, but very cold, with a sharp frost.

Blue flare

Saturday 13th May 2017, 4.35pm (day 2,088)

Halifax flare, 13/5/17

After last weekend’s semi-final victory over Salford, Halifax Town duly beat Chorley 2-1 (after extra time) to get promoted back to the fifth tier of English professional football. 7,920 people were there to see it, an amazing crowd for the level of football (and a record for the National League North apparently). Sam Johnson, Halifax keeper, here clears a flare off the pitch. I’m telling you it was all happening at The Shay this afternoon….

Quite a Hebden-bound period of the blog — in the 20 days since we got back from North Wales, 13 shots have been here (and five of the rest in Manchester). Not so bad I guess but it’s time to get out a bit more. Still, I feel happy that the period signs off with a good shot, this duck and the evening light came together just so — and here’s a sign of where lens flare is integral to what I wanted from the picture.

Taking down the market

Thursday 21st January 2016, 5.00pm (day 1,610)

Dismantling the market, 21/1/16

Well, 1,610 days in and I’m still here…. Facebook friends may know what I mean. Maybe this is the point though… What you see here is a scene which happens every Thursday in Hebden Bridge at this same time of day. But I don’t think I’ve ever pictured it before, and even if I did it wasn’t in this light, in this slight drizzle, and so on (including heroic flare for the second day in a row). I’ll do my best to keep seeing the moments.
