Reunited…. slowly

Monday 10th May 2021, 3.15pm (day 3,546)

Tony and Mel, 10/5/21

Tony pays the boss his dues. OK, so it’s early to be in the pub but plenty of people were; starved of true human contact for so long, there is a great deal of lost time to be made up between friends.

Under the awning

Friday 7th May 2021, 5.05pm (day 3,543)

Pub awning and heater, 7/5/21

Manufacturers of outside awnings and other shelters for pub gardens have probably been one of the few economic sectors to see some positive growth in the last few weeks. The skies were blue this evening, but it’s not going to last.

The last rays of sun

Friday 13th September 2019, 6.20pm (day 2,941)

Clare in sun, 13/9/19

The end of a week, and some relaxation time was definitely called for. This one spot outside Calan’s holds the sunshine for as long as is becoming possible at this time of year, as the days decline. Clare makes the most of this, even though (and she did pre-approve the use of this pic) it does make her look like she is sporting some fine sideburns.

Beer pump (sad?)

Thursday 25th October 2018, 4.05pm (day 2,618)

Sad beer pump, 25/10/18

Perhaps it was early to be in the pub but I was fed up with work by 4pm today. But perhaps not as doleful as this beer pump appears to be. An inanimate object with a secret inner life? Quite possibly.

The last (real) Friday of 2017

Friday 22nd December 2017, 6.30pm (day 2,311)

The last Friday, 22/12/17

The last working week of the year comes to an end. Every year, semester 1 is like a marathon. Sometimes I reach the end delirious and hyper. 2017 is not one of those years. Right now I feel utterly fatigued, just grateful to have reached this point without any significant loss of faculties. It would be good to slumber through the next eleven days to tell the truth — but I can’t, there are festive duties to perform of course. But that doesn’t mean I have to think much about them; that’s the good news.

Outside the pub, Friday evening

Friday 3rd November 2017, 5.25pm (day 2,262)

Outside Calans, 3/11/17

It might only have been a three-day week as far as I was concerned — but I’m still allowed to enjoy getting to the end of it.

Calans’ wall

Friday 13th October 2017, 4.25pm (day 2,241)

Calans wall, 13/10/17

The weekend begins, not that it’s a very long one for me seeing as I have to work Sunday. So let’s ensure it begins in the right place — a pub serving very fine beer — and I doubt this one will move very far away from this and similar spots near home. There’s been enough travelling lately.

Pub mirror

Monday 30th January 2017, 4.05pm (day 1,985)

Calans mirror, 30/1/17

Not an exciting day today, so here’s an abstract. I like the lines, the slash of pink. Flimsy disguise for the fact I was in the pub at 4pm on a school day, however.

Let us be thankful

Friday 6th January 2017, 5.20pm (day 1,961)

Black Jesus, 6/1/17

Come Friday after work, the pub beckons — particularly with this beer on in Calan’s. It is well named, for it is worth respect and tribute.

Joe does the pub quiz

Friday 16th December 2016, 4.50pm (day 1,940)

Joe, pub quiz, 16/12/16

My last day of work before my Christmas break. Some such breaks burst upon the scene with fireworks and celebrations. This was not one of them. More a slow fade out. And with this one of Joe, you wait ages for pictures of people holding magazines in front of their faces, and then two come along in less than a week. Happy Fridays, anyway.
