Asleep on my return

Thursday 15th August 2024, 12.25am (day 4,739)

Clare's feet, 15/8/24

One of those rare ‘post-midnight’ shots for a given day: I didn’t get back from Wales until after 12 on Wednesday night, or was it Thursday morning. By the time I did, the wife had dozed off, so she didn’t particularly complain when I got off one final shot (so to speak). And no, she doesn’t have an ankle-bracelet tattoo; it’s insect repellent, I believe. Postscript: C did insist I add an observation that she gave me permission to use the shot…

Double bill (with Renton and Sick Boy)

Friday 22nd December 2023, 3.25pm (day 4,502)

Trainspotting, 22/12/23

For the last few weeks things have been very uneventful thanks mainly to lots of work plus bad weather. Today was the first day of my Christmas break — but we still had the bad weather, and mainly for that reason, it remained uneventful. But I can sit on the bed and watch DVD double bills like this in mid-afternoon and not feel guilty. In the background, Sick Boy delivers his speech about ‘first you’ve got it, then you’ve lost it’ while Renton looks out for air rifle prey. You’ve seen Trainspotting, right?

Mosquito net (but no mosquitoes)

Wednesday 17th November 2021, 8.10am (day 3,737)

Mosquito net, 17/11/21

The end of incarceration is in sight, although that’s just as well, as I’m really starting to get tired of this situation now. There is a mosquito net installed over my bed here, and I am using it, but I haven’t actually seen any mosquitoes — possibly there was one that drifted by, last week. Otherwise it’s purely cosmetic. And if you think that might be a metaphor for other things, well, help yourself.

19th wedding anniversary (with swollen ankle)

Monday 2nd July 2018, 8.30am (day 2,503)

Clare with swollen ankle, 2/7/18

On the way back from Bricktastic yesterday Clare made what I’m sure she will agree was a rather poor attempt at negotiating a particular kerb in Manchester, and as a result spent the day in this position, more-or-less. I did my best to nurse. I’m not very good at it (my sister got the nursing allocation in my family, believe me) but today was our 19th wedding anniversary, so I owe more than a few by now.

Breakfast on bed

Thursday 29th December 2011, 9.05am (day 126)

Breakfast on bed, 29/12/11

In the 126 days of this blog, few have been harder than today was when it came to finding inspiration. I worked at home all day, not leaving the house; the weather outside was flat grey skies and rain; I didn’t even have the other family members as subjects as both were out from early on and aren’t coming back until tomorrow.

But I have a duty to fulfil, so here is my best effort – given a little tweak by going black & white, which works on this shot, I think (and disguises how faded is the coloured fabric of the duvet cover). It also gives the eagle-eyed among you a chance to vet my sense of humour and football-related reading matter.
