Day of rest

Sunday 27th June 2021, 3.55pm (day 3,594)

Dozing dog, 27/6/21

Could not decide between two photos which both epitomised this uneventful and almost totally energy-free day. But the other one was some knitting project of C’s (we age, we age….) that would have taken too much explanation. The flaked-out dog — and its tether to an unseen owner — these are clearer illustrations.

Alleyway

Saturday 26th June 2021, 1.45pm (day 3,593)

Alleyway, 26/6/21

Spent part of the afternoon in what you might call the low-rent part of town; which is not to say that it was unpleasant. When Clare saw this photo she said ‘It has a Morecambe feel’ to it. In fact this is Laisterdyke in Bradford.

The Educators

Friday 25th June 2021, 1.25pm (day 3,592)

At this time last year we had our annual ‘staff awayday‘ entirely in Zoombieland, and frankly it was the lowest point of that bleak, lonely time for me. I could return to the point about why a largely vaccinated population is still being told they should live in fear, but let’s not — instead, let’s at least celebrate the fact that there were some work colleagues around today. Only a few, but they were there, and how much better the day was for it. Left-to-right; Steve, Miri, Stephen (pictured in his office two weeks ago), Miguel. Happy Fridays, everyone. Take back your public spaces.

Back of/at the Railway

Thursday 24th June 2021, 2.25pm (day 3,591)

Back of Railway, 24/6/21

The Railway pub has featured very regularly on here down the years, but it’s had its long bouts of closure in the last decade; two flood-related and last year’s thanks to the Great Fear, with it not even reopening during the relatively Fear-free summer of 2020. And because of that, I drifted away…. until this afternoon, anyway. There was still not much happening on the picnic tables now set up round the back, but it’s an excuse to present a study of shapes and colours, at least.

Wild strawberry

Wednesday 23rd June 2021, 3.15pm (day 3,590)

Wild strawberry, 23/6/21

This is not an eventful period of my life. This is nothing to do with the Great Fear, it’s just how the wheel is turning at the moment. But at least the wild strawberries are out, and waiting to be found.

Emergency response

Tuesday 22nd June 2021, 8.45am (day 3,589)

Emergency response, 22/6/21

Whatever was happening up Keighley Road this morning, it was a major incident. Over the course of five minutes the house was passed by three fire engines, two ambulances, two ‘incident response’ vehicles and two Mountain Rescue vans, including this one.

And then once the sirens and blue lights had passed — life returned to normal, with nothing more being heard. I guess that’s a good thing.

Father/son humour

Sunday 20th June 2021, 1.50pm (day 3,587)

Father's Day card, 20/6/21

A wholly uneventful Sunday. Joe staggered downstairs some time in the early afternoon and presented me with a couple of bottles of Old Peculier and this card, displaying his rather understated sense of humour.

Moel Famau summit

Saturday 19th June 2021, 11.40am (day 3,586)

Moel Famau summit, 19/6/21

Top of Flintshire, summit of the Clwydian Hills, Moel Famau appealed enough to the royalists of the early 19th century for them to begin building on it a tower to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of King George III. But this fervour clearly faded, and the construction was never finished. Nowadays it is just a place to rest after hauling oneself up to the 1,814 feet (554m) summit. But it looks good, and the view is magnificent. (For pictures of that, see my other blog.)

In the pub, Friday afternoon

Friday 18th June 2021, 4.30pm (day 3,585)

Diabetic arm, 18/6/21

I’m posting a day late and Friday seems a long time ago now after a busy Saturday. I like this picture mostly just for the shapes made, but the woman’s blood sugar monitor also fascinated me. I’ve never seen an implant like that before.
