Valley mist

Monday 19th January 2026, 8.50am (day 5,261)

Valley mist, 19/1/26

And so, after a weekend out, it’s back to work — at home. I suppose, somewhere to the south (about 25 miles to the south in fact) there might be colleagues buzzing around ‘in the office’ but the online meetings I had today suggested that most people were treating the day in the same way I was. None of this has anything to do with the content of today’s shot as such, but it does explain why, once again, the day required something that can be captured through our windows.

Misty morning, with bird

Monday 29th September 2025, 8.20am (day 5,149)

Misty house view plus bird, 29/9/25

As stated yesterday — a second shot from the same place: from yesterday’s shot, pan to the left, go up a ways and pull back out and this comes in view. Not always with the mist, though there’s usually a bird around somewhere.

Last of the sun

Friday 1st December 2023, 2.35pm (day 4,481)

Last sun, 1/12/23

Living in a valley you just have to get used to the sun disappearing early. This happens, in relative terms, all year of course, but in the winter it’s particularly noticeable. By 2.40pm it’ll have gone: and there’s 20 days left until the solstice yet.

Busy valley

Saturday 20th March 2021, 11.45am (day 3,495)

Gauxholme viaduct, 20/3/21

A walk around the Todmorden area today gave me the chance to see from above the railway line on which I travel frequently to Manchester. The settlement is certainly packed into this narrow valley at this point, isn’t it. But the railway somehow dominates, like it’s the thing that really controls the transport here.

This is the fourth shot in a row taken outside of Hebden Bridge. The last time that happened was over Christmas, in Norfolk — and the time before that, early October. This says a lot about the last few months.
