Incoming liquid nitrogen

Tuesday 5th May 2026, 11.50am (day 5,367)

Nitrogen incoming, 5/5/26

This is definitely liquid nitrogen (or was, until a second or two previously), as it’s going into the Air Liquide tank next to the Engineering building. All sorts of things might be going on in there, with applications for liquid nitrogen ranging from the preservation of human remains through the digging of tunnels to the making of ice cream. As uni doesn’t have a cookery department, though, it’s probably not the last one. I can’t discount the first.

Late night on Garnett Street

Tuesday 10th March 2026, 9.45pm (day 5,311)

Garnett St, Bradford, 10/3/26

OK, not that late I suppose, but nevertheless this is the latest shot in a given day since 30th September — which, as this one is, was taken in Bradford. Clearly that city has become my go-to spot for evenings out. I did do more interesting things today than hang around this empty car park for some industrial unit or other, by the way. But as a subject for the camera it worked OK. The manhole cover to the bottom right does annoy me a bit, but I couldn’t crop it without also losing the important red.

Indoor tyre yard, Dundee

Friday 8th July 2022, 12.10pm (day 3,970)

Indoor tyre yard, 8/7/22

In the Blackness area of Dundee there is this huge old industrial complex, now abandoned and crumbling. Open doors and windows allow views inside here and there, like this one, which I nearly entitled ‘Arson attack waiting to happen’: tyres burn most satisfactorily, and for a long time. The place is for sale, and I wonder whether there is profit in buying it and keeping it this way, as a film set or somewhere that urban explorers can simply be let loose to play.
