Keela’s rig

Thursday 26th June 2025, 11.00am (day 5,054)

Keela and VR rig, 26/6/25

It’s nice when my students can still impress me, and, currently, Keela’s dissertation project is certainly doing that — although I can’t tell you what it is, not for any sinister reasons but just because it’s not finished yet and not my business to tell you. But, yes, it involves virtual reality, she doesn’t wear a rig on a regular basis. I do not believe my office noticeboard has featured before so there you go, a chance to check out the randomly accumulated display of items upon it for the first, and who knows, perhaps the last time.

Roger Daltrey does his scream

Sunday 9th July 2023, 9.35pm (day 4,336)

Roger Daltrey, 9/7/23

The Who should have already appeared on this blog one way or another. I had tickets to see them in Manchester a few years ago and then couldn’t go for reasons I don’t even remember properly. In March 2020 we were one week, literally, away from seeing them in Leeds (Live in Leeds!) when Bojo The Clown decided that the rest of the country (but not him) had to cease all this entertainment rubbish — postponed a year, that gig was eventually cancelled too. BUT — here we are, finally, in Edinburgh Castle, watching Daltrey and Townshend do their thing. At 79 years old, Roger Daltrey understandably doesn’t leap about the stage as much as he used to but he can definitely still sing, and right at this point he is reproducing one of the best screams in rock history — the one near the end of Won’t Get Fooled Again, which is up there in my ‘top 5’ all-time great tracks.

So yes…. all in all it could be said that I had a good evening.

A favourite

Saturday 12th January 2019, 7.05pm (day 2,697)

Quadrophenia, 12/1/19

Each month the “Friends of the Picture House” can nominate a movie to be shown there on a Saturday afternoon. Clare has been on the committee for about a year now and we’ve been feeding her suggestions. Finally, today, one came through: Quadrophenia. I may have had something to do with this… and so did Joe, for whom it is also a favourite movie. I’m sure The Favourite is a very good film too (it’s supposed to be), but it was the lower of the two that drew us in today. Have you ever had a movie request shown at the pictures? It’s fun, if you can make it happen.

Leaving the house

Sunday 2nd April 2017, 4.25pm (day 2,047)

Mod leaves house, 2/4/17

An opportunity to picture the new coat that Joe acquired for his birthday last month, with suitable patch now installed. His choice, in case you were wondering — he does claim to like this popular beat combo.

The electric guitar

Sunday 2nd March 2014, 4.45pm (day 920)

Electric guitar, 2/3/14

Joe has graduated up recently from his acoustic to this axe. Note the book of music as well — his choice (he is often observed putting the very brilliant Won’t Get Fooled Again on jukeboxes). A boy of taste.
