Under conditions of day-to-day repetition it’s nice to have reasons to select shots. This mirror selfie makes it because I realised it has become the 42nd self-portrait to feature on here — and the number 42 has been highlighted whenever and wherever it appears. So you can now see that I am in sore need of a haircut, like many other people. There are worse consequences of the present farce, of course.
Facebook friends have been seeing the growth of this ridiculous facial hair over the last two weeks but it’s time to put it on the blog. We are at the halfway point of Movember, and this is my effort, all done (I can assure you) to raise money for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. Today was noticeable for being an extremely wet day, even by Norwegian standards — there was flooding in parts of Bergen and up and down the west coast, with more rain to come tomorrow, but I have escaped home. I hope everyone back there is OK though. I am now not leaving the UK for some time, four and a half months is the current plan. This was taken on the last plane ride home before the break: the Bergen – Manchester service, which runs just once a week, and never, ever on time (shame on you SAS!).
Had been worried that a sixth consecutive full day in Hebden Bridge would dampen the creativity, but this shot happened anyway and I like it. This is me, today.
We were so close to getting some attractive but stereotypical shot of the canals this morning and probably that one will make the ‘Best of the Rest’ files at some later date. But in the end this one wins because it amuses me, and it amuses me because it’s not staged or altered in any way: the words are written in marker pen on the whiteboard behind me and yes, I took it myself and no, I actually wasn’t pulling a face. Apparently, that’s what I really look like.
I promise, some canals tomorrow. Or Thursday morning.
An utterly uneventful day, spent working at home – dull light, nothing particularly to see. Struggled for inspiration photo-wise, so for the first time in the 41 days I’ve been doing this (blimey, is that all?), you can have a self-portrait. Apologies. There won’t be many more.
