Frosty morning

Thursday 28th November 2024, 8.35am (day 4,844)

Frosty view, 28/11/24

12 of the last 16 shots have been taken in Hebden Bridge, and there are going to be more coming up — by recent standards, an unusually static state of affairs. But when it looks like this in the morning, I don’t really care.

November morning (or not)

Tuesday 19th November 2024, 1.00pm (day 4,835)

Nutclough November, 19/11/24

I have marking to do and didn’t really leave the house all day (well, OK, I went to the pub, but it was dark by then). The snow came, and this shot seems to sum up the day well enough.

I entitled this “November morning” before I looked more closely at the time it was taken. But somehow it feels like a morning, so I’m not going to change it.

Out of season

Wednesday 30th November 2022, 3.40pm (day 4,115)

Southport out of season, 30/11/22

Circumstances today brought me to Southport, a place that has featured twice on the blog before: here and here, both of them images of endless sand and sky (the sea here makes a notoriously long retreat at low tide, going out literally miles). These suggest the major function of the town is as a seaside resort, and that’s quite correct. So in late November, quite a lot of it looks like this.

I like this shot, except for the parked car. It’s impressive how often cars screw up an otherwise pleasing composition.

Eiffel Buildings, twilight

Monday 21st November 2022, 4.15pm (day 4,106)

Eiffel Buildings, 21/11/22

I’ve said it before, but it’s days like today — spent entirely in my house, day 1 of the latest batch of marking — that will eventually do for this blog, will drain my creative juices dry and leave me with simply nothing to photograph. But there’s always the view. Same comments as yesterday re: the hours of darkness, only today, half an hour earlier. The car headlights coming up Birchcliffe Road, and about to turn behind the buildings, give the necessary additional touch.

November sunset

Sunday 20th November 2016, 3.20pm (day 1,914)

Sunset view, 20/11/16

I have a commitment to try to avoid repeating myself on this blog: but of all the views that have appeared more than once, this one, the one looking west from my house, has been the most often repeated. And for good reason. It has saved many an otherwise drab day.

And yes, we do already have snow, have had for three days in fact. After the whole year has seemed to be running late climatically — winter has hit early, and quite hard.
