Rain and shine

Saturday 31st August 2019, 3.45pm (day 2,928)

Rain at the game, 31/8/19

The weather has been some rain, some shine, alternating every half an hour or so, for some time now. I like the way this shot catches the drops and also that charismatic tree in the background.

Pre-match smoke

Tuesday 27th August 2019, 6.15pm (day 2,924)

Pre-match cigarette, 27/8/19

I wonder whether now I have hit 50 that I am going to start seeing any aspect of the world differently. It won’t happen overnight of course, but maybe changes in my worldview will become more apparent. Here’s an example. I certainly understand this guy’s attitude rather more than I might have in the past.

Handshakes

Thursday 15th August 2019, 6.35pm (day 2,912)

Church Fenton FC, 15/8/19

More football, I know, but it was that, or stay in by myself on a lovely August evening and give you a photo of a bloke loading a skip outside my house. At least the rim-light is good on this one.

The away bench

Saturday 10th August 2019, 4.40pm (day 2,907)

Bishop's Cleeve, 10/8/19

The substitutes and manager of Easington Sports FC look rather morose here but then again they are coming to the end of a rather limp 3-0 defeat at the ground of their hosts, Bishops’ Cleeve FC. I like this shot because of the pallette, the rustic hay bales in the background and finally because of their semi-formal, portrait-style arrangement. The ground has only been there since 2002, but there’s something timeless about it.

Sunday morning footie

Sunday 12th May 2019, 11.15am (day 2,817)

Old Earth footie landscape, 12/5/19

The football season comes to an end. At the very top, everything is won by those with the most money; at the lower levels, not necessarily. The Waiters Arms team in yellow shock their previously undefeated opponents, FC Panda, 2-1 to win the Mel Owens Invitational Cup on this sunny Sunday morning. You might not care, but 100 people turned up to see this.

Football portrait

Saturday 20th April 2019, 4.45pm (day 2,795)

Rhys of Brighouse, 20/4/19

Decided early on that today’s pic from the football was going to be a portrait, and in the end, the prize of being the model goes to Brighouse Town’s number 2, Rhys Jenkinson. He’s not looking stressed out at this point, nor should he seeing as this was towards the end of a comfortable 4-0 victory. Seeing as Brighouse should make the play-offs in their league this season, and I care about this, expect to see a couple more BTFC images before the next two weeks are out.

A beer in the sunshine

Saturday 23rd March 2019, 2.35pm (day 2,767)

Cheshunt FC, 23/3/19

My last full day in the UK for three and a bit weeks. There might be a photo from the airport tomorrow, but if there’s not this is the last of 117 consecutive UK pictures: not the longest run I’ve had but it does seem a while since I was last away (Germany, late November). It being Saturday, I went to the football; the ground is (as you can see in the background) Cheshunt FC, but the home team today were FC Romania, who groundshare there. This picture does not show that at all, but I like the red of the guy’s top against the muted tones of the stands and tarmac.

On the attack

Saturday 16th February 2019, 4.05pm (day 2,732)

Burntisland Shipyard, 16/2/19

It’s been a little while (three weeks) since my football habit directly made an appearance on the blog but I like this shot. The blues, Burntisland Shipyard, on the attack here, scored a last-minute goal to win 3-2. Why did I come to this game? I just like the name. Burntisland Shipyard. (And I have friends who live down the road.)

Up on the gantry

Saturday 9th February 2019, 3.35pm (day 2,725)

Filming Brighouse Town, 9/2/19

A rather precarious place to be positioned on a breezy day. But they did get to see the mighty Brighouse Town march to a 3-0 win that keeps them second in the table. And, I won the Golden Goal sweepstake, £30 return on a £1 ticket! Result!

Trees (and some other activity)

Saturday 26th January 2019, 3.30pm (day 2,711)

Jarvis Brook FC, 26/1/19

It’s a picture of some aesthetically pleasing trees, honestly. Well, there are enough footie pictures on this blog already, aren’t there?
