The further north you go, the earlier the trees turn. Those who want to see displays like this in late September, come to northern Finland. The back of the traffic sign gives nice contrast.

November, which began with an absolutely glorious day, has ended with three weeks of pretty sustained crap, weather-wise. With no light but grey, damp dullness, and a day spent almost entirely working at home, I’m having to work hard for these shots at the moment. Still, this one will do — there are lots of nice textures to explore.
A dismal, rainy morning turned into quite a well-lit, mild and sunny afternoon, at least in Manchester. This leafy spot has appeared on the blog before — it is certainly one of central Manchester’s better locations if leaf-fall is your bag, despite being right next to the main arterial road that is the Mancunian Way.
The building where my office is located in Manchester (better than saying ‘where I work’… I work all over), is something of a concrete monstrosity, but it is wrapped around this nice courtyard with a highly concealed entrance, so no one ever goes there. But I have discovered it; it’s very nice, particularly at this time of year. I know it’s easy to overdo the ‘autumn leaves’ thing but it’s a good standby on days when there’s not much else to capture.
And the clocks are going back tonight. Guess that means it’s winter soon.
Also, a happy birthday to Clare, the wife — thirtysomething again today 🙂
This photo was taken right at the point where a slip road – that’s it behind the fence – curves off the busy A34 road and heads up to the even busier Mancunian Way (the city centre relief road). I’m stood right by a flyover that still bears the commemorative plaque awarded in 1968 by the ‘Concrete Society’ (no kidding) and in the background is one of the locality’s grimmer 1960s housing blocks.
All the same, it’s rather pretty at the moment isn’t it?
