It’s astonishing, and kind of embarrassing, quite how grubby are some of the harder-to-reach corners of our house. This one sits below the unused chimney, but that’s an explanation, not an excuse. I picture it here to shame the cleaning fairies who, of course, should be the ones doing the work.
Actually, Leeds city centre was phenomenally busy this afternoon. It seems that, by law, one is only allowed to visit there on a Saturday if one is a member of a sten or hag party. But this shot seems to catch the one deserted street, even at henstag rush hour, as with the opening shots of 28 Days Later.
Beside the boating lake in Southport is clearly the place to be if you are a swan concerned about your appearance. These four were just a few of the many there who all seemed to be engaged in some kind of preening and cleaning activity, in or out of the water. But as someone with a lot of hair themselves, I know that it is tricky to keep one’s plumage tidy. It’s nice that they seem to do it as a social thing, like elderly ladies gathering in a salon.
