I don’t expect this photo to win any awards and I could have done better with the light today on what was a beautiful spring day. But sometimes the opportunities just don’t arise. This’ll do — and it was still a lovely day.
The Flybussen links Bergen city centre with the airport and I’ve become quite familiar with it over the years. Home from Norway this evening, the last trip abroad of 2014. Not a bad shot although it might be nicer if the emergency window-smashing hammer weren’t hovering over things like the sword of Damocles.
It is sometimes said that Oxford Road, Manchester, is the busiest bus route in Europe. Looking at this sight – there are at least 17 buses visible on this shot and I see no reason why the unseen space behind the one in the centre of the picture is occupied by anything different – it is not only easy to believe this, but impossible not to marvel at the mentality of those who think that unregulated public transport is a good idea. Reallocating even one of these buses to the Lake District, say, or a bus-free village in the shires… don’t you think that would be a more productive use of it?
Recently, throughout Manchester, this face has been appearing on the side of buses. Now I was sure that Margaret Thatcher had once said, “Anyone seen regularly on a bus after the age of 30 can count themselves a failure in life”.
However, I checked out the veracity of this quote and according to a Wikipedia talk page, it may be apocryphal.
Still, how much funnier it would now be if she had really said it.
