Autumn ablaze

Sunday 28th October 2018, 2.20pm (day 2,621)

Autumn ablaze, 28/10/18

The clocks went back last night, and winter draws closer. But no one has told this tree yet and it’s determined to go out in a blaze of glory.

The only one watching

Saturday 27th October 2018, 2.40pm (day 2,620)

Fitzwilliam v Bealonians, 27/10/18

I realised today that my obscure football match habit has become extreme when I turned up at this game in London [*] and was literally the only spectator present. But hey, it was a good game, 3-3, and the background mix of buildings, for photography purposes, very pleasing. So why shouldn’t I have done that on a Saturday afternoon in central London? No one else experienced this but me.

[*] if you really want to know, Fitzwilliam Old Boys v Bealonians in the Amateur Football Combination, Division 1.

“Move along, nothing to see here”…

Monday 22nd October 2018, 4.55pm (day 2,615)

Purple alien, 22/10/18

…so the guy second left seems to be saying. Why this tableau stands near platform 14 of Piccadilly station in Manchester at the moment I have no idea. Perhaps just for the photo opportunities.

First one up?

Friday 19th October 2018, 6.10am (day 2,612)

First one up, 19/10/18

Pulled duty on the 6:32 train to Manchester for the first time in a while, making this the earliest true morning shot since January 2017. Maybe I wasn’t the first one up in the whole town but there weren’t many of us. A long week of work comes to an end. Is it Christmas yet?

Another house view

Monday 15th October 2018, 4.10pm (day 2,608)

Another house view, 15/10/18

There’s not a great deal happening at the moment. On such occasions it’s time to appreciate the good colours and light to be seen out of our back windows, when they’re available. Today, they were. Whatever that particularly yellow tree is, it was shining like a beacon over the town at 4.10pm this afternoon. And I know the tower of the Nutclough Mill gets in the way a bit, but it has been there a long time.

Violet's tattoos, 12/10/18

This is very Hebden Bridge. With an autumn sheen.

Calder Holmes Park

Thursday 11th October 2018, 2.30pm (day 2,604)

Calder Holmes, 11/10/18

Maybe it’s all down to the same combination of conditions that have produced the fecundity of fruit and fungi, but the autumn colours this year are very fine. This is not another football shot, honestly.

View from the Mancunian Way

Wednesday 10th October 2018, 9.40am (day 2,603)

October morning, Manchester, 10/10/18

A colourful scene depicted from under the Mancunian Way this morning, on another beautifully sunny day. By all forecasts a storm is coming in and I’m not in Manchester again for days yet, so this might be the last time you see the city like this all year. Or, indeed, that I do.

Towpath repairs

Tuesday 9th October 2018, 9.20am (day 2,602)

Towpath repairs, 9/10/18

One of the hi-vis army does his valuable stuff on the banks of the Rochdale Canal. A beautiful morning today, and a real ‘Indian Summer’ day. Fine by me.

Browns

Sunday 7th October 2018, 12.20pm (day 2,600)

Browns, 7/10/18

The browns of autumn…. Only, there is no plant life in sight. The world is still browning up, though. (Or is it browning down.)
