In the Engineering Building

Wednesday 18th December 2024, 10.20am (day 4,864)

In Engineering, 18/12/24

After three pictures of inanimate objects mimicking live things, here we have a usually live thing — campus — as a more inanimate object. Teaching finished last week, and today there really weren’t many people around. And that’s it for me, too, not just in 2024: there will be no more campus shots on here until early February, if things go according to plan.

Princess Street, calm

Thursday 21st November 2024, 9.50am (day 4,837)

Princess Street, 21/11/24

A scene passed almost every time I walk to campus, and unusually quiet today. But that’s a good thing: the light fell just right for the shot and there are no moving cars to spoil it (well, OK, there’s the one just entering the very back of the shot but we can ignore it). All that was needed was a train coming over the bridge. Maybe next time.

Campus morning, not busy

Wednesday 19th October 2022, 9.15am (day 4,073)

Campus morning, 19/10/22

Two mornings in a row on campus. Well, I should put in a bit of effort now and again. Not that many other people were doing so today. The solitary, distant figure on the left is the only one to make it into this shot.

Not very busy

Tuesday 24th January 2017, 4.55pm (day 1,979)

Old Gate, 24/1/17

The title of this post is meant in a practical sense. To see a Hebden pub this empty at 5pm is very rare. It’s the end of January, no one has any money. I certainly don’t.

But there’s an existential meaning to it too. It’s been an extremely uneventful period, last week included (I might have gone to Moscow, but I didn’t do much). It’ll change. Slowly. But it will.
