“One day lad, all this will be yours”

Doune Castle window, 11/6/25

Joe makes his first appearance on the blog since December. Why this window? Why the post title? This is Doune Castle, and some 51 years ago, in 1974, Michael Palin and Terry Jones were stood by this very window during the filming Monty Python and the Holy Grail; Doune stood in for at least four different castles in the movie. “But mother…..” “Father, lad, father.” “But father….. I don’t want to marry her, I just want to, want to…..” (The ignorant can check out the scene at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3YiPC91QUk)

Monty Python Live (Mostly)

Sunday 20th July 2014, 8.00pm (day 1,060)

Monty Python, 20/7/14

Taken not at the O2 arena in London — I was not one of those who either got in their bid for a ticket in the first 50 seconds or so, or knew the right tout — but at the live feed which was broadcast to Hebden Bridge Picture House among other places. Taking shots of events happening on a cinema screen is something of a cheat but this did epitomise the day. Altogether now — “Every Sperm is Sacred… every sperm is good”…

Norwegian Blue

Friday 6th January 2012, 8.00pm (day 134)

Norwegian blue, 6/1/12

Beautiful plumage. But if it hadn’t been nailed to the perch, it would have been pushing up the daisies. It’s run up the curtain and joined the choir invisibule. This…. is an Ex-… Parrot.

Which, no kidding, arrived in our mail today. I bet you didn’t get one.

Breakfast on bed

Thursday 29th December 2011, 9.05am (day 126)

Breakfast on bed, 29/12/11

In the 126 days of this blog, few have been harder than today was when it came to finding inspiration. I worked at home all day, not leaving the house; the weather outside was flat grey skies and rain; I didn’t even have the other family members as subjects as both were out from early on and aren’t coming back until tomorrow.

But I have a duty to fulfil, so here is my best effort – given a little tweak by going black & white, which works on this shot, I think (and disguises how faded is the coloured fabric of the duvet cover). It also gives the eagle-eyed among you a chance to vet my sense of humour and football-related reading matter.
