Condiments

Wednesday 15th October 2025, 12.35pm (day 5,165)

Condiments, 15/10/25

Life remains unexciting and I doubt this is going to change in the near future. At least lunch was taken somewhere new. The rebellious spark in me wants to just swap a couple of these around. Not rearrange them totally — that would be messy. But, yin-yang style, maybe exchange one of the mayos with one of the ketchups. Doubtless someone would spoil the effect by putting it back: they wouldn’t be able to resist (not if they were anything like Clare, anyway).

The Ship Inn, Brighouse

Saturday 28th October 2023, 12.50pm (day 4,447)

The Ship Inn, Brighouse, 28/10/23

I wonder how many different public houses have appeared on here over the last 12 years. Quite a few I imagine. Free advertising: the Ship in Brighouse does very good BLT sandwiches for only £3.50. And thanks to its Halloween decorations, it gives good purple — a shade almost exactly matched by the woman’s coat, which I think is why I like this shot.

Giraffe café, King’s Cross

Monday 24th April 2023, 11.55am (day 4,260)

Giraffe cafe, 24/4/23

And so, the trip back from London, and that invariably means King’s Cross is the departure point. I quite like the Giraffe café, on the balcony above the concourse — it’s a fairly agreeable railway station all round, in fact. Maybe the guy eating the sandwich might feel his depiction is a little unflattering but at least it catches the lunchtime moment.

Outside the Caledonian Hotel, Carlisle

Saturday 17th August 2019, 12.55pm (day 2,914)

Caledonian Hotel, 17/8/19

No particular reason for depicting this pub — I didn’t patronise it — but I do like the arrangement of the tableau and the way the red door sets off the monochrome. Presumably the mobility scooter belongs to one of the two guys on the right. Although maybe they both claim it and are about to fight over it.
