North from Helvellyn

Thursday 17th August 2023, 2.00pm (day 4,375)

North from Helvellyn, 17/8/23

I established today that over the last two years I have made frequent promises, on both my walking blogs, that I would soon be going back up Helvellyn, which at 3,117 feet above sea level is the third-highest mountain in England, and which first featured on here in December 2011. Today, finally, I made it and it was well worth it. This was the first walk to count as both a Wainwright and County Top walk; so including this picture, three blogs for the price of one. Am I overdoing it? No, I don’t think so.

Raise, from White Side

Wednesday 29th November 2017, 1.15pm (day 2,288)

Raise from White Side, 29/11/17

I had a book to read for work. I read it today. Did I need to be in an office to do this? No, I didn’t.

There are actually two other people (who had the same idea as me) visible on this photo. While away a pleasant couple of minutes seeing if you can locate them.

On Helvellyn, looking south

Friday 2nd December 2011, 11.25am (day 99)

Helvellyn, 2/12/11

Do I need to add any commentary, really?

I’ll just make an observation – don’t think the whole country is like this. In fact, this was about the only bit of the Lake District that was like this. There are several more photos up on the 214wainwrights blog, which will give you the full flavour.

Also, tomorrow’s the 100th day of this blog so there’ll be another ‘best of the rest’ selection going up.
