‘Antique’ shop, Ramsbottom

Saturday 15th February 2025, 12.50pm (day 4,923)

Ramsbottom antique shop, 15/2/25

Anyone who thinks that an ‘antique’ shop these days is a guarantee that the products for sale are somehow all going to be more than about 20 years sold is fooling themselves. But these places are good to visit, and to photograph. This place in Ramsbottom even outdid Hebden’s equivalent spot. Why this mannequin is done up in bondage I have no idea, but even she is upstaged by the Dalek behind.

Bookworm

Thursday 10th August 2023, 1.45pm (day 4,368)

Bookworm, 10/8/23

The second picture of the inside of a book in four days, but I am doing a lot of reading at the moment. Anyway, this wasn’t a work book, as the text might indicate — in fact this is an old Doctor Who novel, which I have probably owned for about forty-five years. At some point, it has been merrily munched through, round and round and round again, by some minuscule thing with teeth, making this the first definitive case of bookworm I think I’ve ever seen. At least it didn’t spread, but I won’t be selling this volume on the second-hand market, I feel.

Tom Baker

Saturday 21st January 2012, 2.20pm (day 149)

Tom Baker, 21/1/12

First day at home after 8 on the move, and so profoundly inactive (and light-free) that I was reduced to taking pictures of the DVDs I was watching.

Still, this shot is meaningful to me: like most British kids my age, I accord Tom Baker’s incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who near-divine status. I could claim that I was watching ‘The Deadly Assassin’ DVD today because of Joe, who does like the programme, but actually, he was out at a friend’s. I feel no shame.
