Sunday 6th January 2019, 4.30pm (day 2,691)
The start of a journey home on a Sunday afternoon. A good day out: but I like this picture just because of the melancholy feel to it, because it’s a melancholy time of year, isn’t it. And the yellow.

A damp, soggy evening, and when we potential passengers were told that the bus I was waiting for was to be half an hour late, I gave up and made other arrangements for the evening. So be it — this was my last day of work in Manchester of 2018, and frankly, for now, I’m just glad to see the back of the place. I need some downtime…
This is not my car. But I do sympathise with the owner, as this is taken near my house and they must live nearby (going on how often I see this car). Under such circumstances I too might have a mushroom cloud coming out of my head. Then again that’s one reason I don’t own a car.
This is one of those shots that works if one gets the symmetry right — so it’s a shame both trains were not the same. But with this station, Simbach am Inn, lying right on the German/Austrian border, the one on the left goes into the first country, the one on the right, the latter. And who doesn’t love a bit of good old-fashioned Century Gothic font.
For about fifteen minutes this evening the sunset turned the sky into a blazing inferno. It came and went away again very quickly and several people I spoke to later, who had been inside at the time, had no idea what they had missed. They can be excused — but not the people on the train, who seemed far more interested in their screens than the real-life show outside. I wanted to be sat on their side of the train for the best show. But I guess this shot illustrates it well enough.
I know how he feels… even if it is the weekend. Mind you, he could also benefit from having less luggage.
Another day, another railway station to add to the collection. Though unlike yesterday, no giant purple aliens: just this couple having a snuggle before one or both of them heads off for wherever.
With this shot Chester nicks, from Amsterdam, the record of ‘place with the biggest gap between appearances on the blog’. On 10th June 2012 the picture (of burlesque artiste Ginger La Rouge) was taken here, but nothing since, making the gap 2,326 days.
One of the hi-vis army does his valuable stuff on the banks of the Rochdale Canal. A beautiful morning today, and a real ‘Indian Summer’ day. Fine by me.
We are getting longer platforms! And lifts to and from them, from the subway! It’s a miracle…. or will be, if we ever get the train service to match.
