These days it’s 8:52 that is my more usual arrival time into Manchester Victoria, on days when I deign to show my face there. Today was early, for me. I had forgotten how much busier it is. Everyone is being sucked towards the ticket gates as if by a tractor beam.
More specifically, skulking right down the far end of it, where the trains never stop. It looks like he may have busted the photographer but actually, looking closer up suggests he’s oblivious to his capture for posterity. I quite like the lighting on this one.
No rest for me despite an 11pm arrival home last night, it was off for a full day’s work, even if I did the second part of it at home. 13:48 departure from Victoria delayed a few minutes while this very long freight rumbled through platform 3b. This is just the very back end of it.
A prosaic way to mark Clare’s 41st birthday: many happy returns to her, as mentioned tonight, maybe on this date next year she should take over the blog for a day, as its title will apply…
Into Manchester for the first time in a few weeks. Victoria station’s redevelopment proceeds onwards: this is taken from platform 1, looking back towards the old building (listed, so they have to preserve it in the rebuild) and the new roof. It’s good to see.
