Let there be joy and celebration, in the away end, anyway. After only being on the field five minutes, Hadjam has just scored the second and decisive goal for Brighton and the victory over Sunderland is complete. It was 1st December 2018 when I last saw the Albion win a Premier League game. Worth the wait? Just about.
It’s all over. In the rain that came down for most of the second half, the players of Ashington celebrate with their travelling fans, having won the play-off match 3-0. They get promoted, while hosts Glossop North End are relegated. Number 12 feels the pain.
37 competitions into my football season and this was the penultimate one today, Division 1 the West Lancashire League, where I saw champions Poulton FC lift the trophy. The post-match — and post-season — celebrations are about to start here. It’s been a fun way to spend a season but it’s getting tiring and I’m a little glad we’re moving into summer: but by late June I’ll probably be missing it.
