First buds of spring

Thursday 6th March 2025, 1.45pm (day 4,942)

Apple buds, 6/3/25

A definite First Day of Spring. The buds on the apple tree anticipated it, however. Well, we call it a ‘tree’ but it’s more like a kind of skein of branches that wrap themselves around some vaguely solid thing that might or might not be a trunk. More like vines, almost. New buds

Thursday 28th February 2019, 4.50pm (day 2,744)

New buds, 28/2/19

A day of significant family happenings, but they were all digital and so left nothing to photograph. Meanwhile, out in the world, the week’s fine weather has brought out these buds: they weren’t here a week ago. A year ago today, it snowed substantially in Hebden Bridge, but no danger of that this February 28th.
