Veterans on parade

Whatever event was going on in Hebden Bridge Town Hall this afternoon it involved a few dozen identically-dressed elderly gentlemen, weighed down with various medals. By no means all of them had their mobility scooters, but quite a few of them did. Well, good luck to them. I use the shot because I am reminded of the cover of the Dead Kennedy’s Frankenchrist album — it is not to mock.

Scooting off

My debut attempt to ride a scooter — which took place at a sports day in about 1991 — was so phenomenally embarrassing that I have never got near another one since. This is quite a hill the guy is about to head down, too. He has my admiration. At least it’s a one-way street.

Casualty of mud

This scooter is currently lying a dozen yards offshore in the muddy wastes of the banks of the River Lune. I fear it is lost, soon to become an archaeological relic, a fossil perhaps [yes, I’m aware this cannot happen with inorganic material]. You do wonder about the story behind these things, but as with the car crash in Wales two weeks ago, perhaps it is better not to enquire too deeply.
