In the dry dock, a wave

Sunday 15th February 2026, 3.35pm (day 5,288)

Barge in dry dock, 15/2/26

Couldn’t decide between two pictures today and went with this one largely to avoid having two pictures in the same weekend taken in the cinema. But this one will do. It has been a while since something has used the dry dock in Hebden town centre, but this barge obliged today while also being quite well-decorated, although what a tsunami has to do with the water on a canal does pass me by. Wishful thinking perhaps?

In the dry dock

Wednesday 14th June 2017, 2.15pm (day 2,120)

Dry dock, 14/6/17

Often good for a photo, as the canal dry dock is about the last bastion of proper industry (you know, with sparks and grime) in the very centre of Hebden Bridge. It looks old, but was actually put in fairly recently, as I’ve seen photos from the 1980s that show it wasn’t there then.

The dry dock in use

Monday 9th June 2014, 4.50pm (day 1,019)

Dry dock, 9/6/14

This doesn’t happen that often, but when it does it’s kind of impressive. The dry dock at Hebden Bridge marina is fully functional, and as you can see, well placed for a half-decent pub.
